Operations Manager / Factory Manager

GRS – Isando

 

Reporting to: 

General Manager

An opportunity exists at GRS – Isando for an Operations / Factory Manager with the

following requirements:

 

 Main purpose of the job

 

The Operations / Factory Manager will be responsible for the execution of the agreed daily

manufacturing plan, coordinating and control of the manufacturing processes within the sheeting

plant.

 

The incumbent will ensure:

• that goods and services are produced efficiently,

• and that the correct quantity is produced at the right cost in accordance with the respective

sales order;

• the correct level of quality and delivered within agreed lead times OTIF.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for the managing of all the Operations / Factory required to fulfill

annual Production requirements, and final delivery to the finished goods warehouse; this is to be

affected within approved budgets, scrap levels and output/efficiency targets, while ensuring the

worker force safety is maintained and that the factory remains legally compliant. The incumbent

must be able to lead the production team in a meaningful and co-ordinated manner, that will ensure

a stable and team orientated work ethic exists. Strong labor relationships are essential.

Qualifications and Experience required

  • Matric 

  • Diploma and or Degree Purchase Management / Supply Chain 

  • Minimum 3 y

  • • Matric/Grade 12

  • • National Diploma in Production, Operations or Sales Management

  • • Degree or Post Graduate Degree would be an advantage

  • • Minimum 5 years’ experience of local roof industry

  • • Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in operations and manufacturing

  • • Minimum 6 – 10 years’ experience in a management position

  • • A Mechanical/Electrical background in Roll milling operations processes and equipment is

  • advantageous

  • • Minimum 5 years’ experience using Microsoft packages

  • • Strong labour relationships are essential

  • • Knowledge of machine set up, roll settings is advantageous, as well as the respective methods

  • of fault finding and resolution

  • • Sound understanding of Production management

  • • Excellent oral and written communication skills• Skills / Attributes

  • o Persuasion – Persuading others to change their behavior

  • o Critical thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of

  • alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems

  • o Active listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking the time to

  • actions to choose the most appropriate one

  • o Negotiation and conflict management skills - Bringing others together and trying to reconcile

  • • Experience of working at a senior level, with good communication skills at both external parties

  • and business audiences

  • • Experience of working in an FMCG environment and liaising with all levels of employees and

  • stakeholders

  • ears’ experience in a similar position within the steel / roofing industry is essential. This includes purchasing (local & imports), inventory management 

  • Microsoft Proficiency 

  • Working knowledge and Understanding of Syspro 

  • Knowledge of Steel / Roofing equipment and manufacture 

  • Analytical skills are essential 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate on all levels are all essential skills to execute this position successfully 

  • Service excellence to internal customer and to a lesser extent external customers is not negotiable, be a team player 

  • Intermediate Excel skills 

  • Aptitude for figures – Math and Numeracy 

  • Inventory Management and Distribution Management of steel products. 

  • Knowledge of roofing and construction or similar products and Raw Material used in Steel Metal Industry 

  • Ability to Prioritize according to deadlines and urgency. 

  • Deadline Driven 

  • Ability to work under pressure. 

  • Conflict Resolution Skills - manage realistic deadlines expectations for procurement with internal stakeholders 

  • Attention to detail and Accuracy of information flow. 

  • Accurate reporting without compromising cost and quality of products. 

  • Ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders. 

  • Experience of working in an FMCG environment and liaising with all levels of employees and stakeholders. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with both external parties and business audiences. 

  • Ability to correctly interpret Standard Operating Procedures and apply it.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • o Track and drive functional targets/goals and hold staff accountable for achieving results

  • • Continuous improvement and functional change: lead functional improvement and create a

  • • Engage with managers, operations and cross-functionally with peers

  • • Governance: Ensure function adheres to governance, policies, and standards, statutory and
